Rabbi Stephen Weiss of Cleveland’s Pepper Pike Synagogue was arrested and accused of attempting to solicit minors. He is currently released on bail of $50,000.

Rabbi Stephen Weiss is a senior rabbi at B’nai Jeshurun Congregation in Pepper Pike. According to the synagogue’s website, Weiss is one of three rabbis of B’nai Jeshurun Congregation on Fairmount Boulevard.

Weiss is described as an “outspoken community leader” who helped construct a new Camp Ramah, a Jewish summer camp for children. As well as two new Jewish high schools, according to his biography on the synagogue’s website.

Weiss was arrested on April 18 for attempting illicit sexual behavior with a minor. He was detained after having sexual internet communications with an undercover investigator acting like a 15-year-old kid.

According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office criminal complaint, the 60-year-old Pepper Pike homeowner drove to a pre-arranged site in Newburgh Heights.

His intention was to allegedly engage in sexual behavior with the accused kid after talking on a social networking app. Law enforcement agents from the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force apprehended him on the spot.

According to the prosecutor’s office, his vehicle was inspected, and authorities discovered a package of condoms and two bottles of lubricant.

Michael Goldberg, Weiss’ attorney, declined to comment on anything related to the case on Tuesday. Similarly, the executive director of the synagogue, Jay Ross, likewise declined to respond.

Rabbi Stephen Weiss Was Arrested With Solicitation Charges

Rabbi Stephen Weiss was arrested after reportedly attempting to meet a 15-year-old kid for adultery in Cuyahoga County on Monday.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Weiss was charged with one crime of attempted illegal sexual behavior with a child, one offense of importuning, and one count of having criminal instruments.

Weiss consented to have oral sex with the agent, according to an affidavit sworn by the agent. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew Santoli approved the affidavit, granting agents the authority to arrest Weiss.

The Court documents explain that Weiss secured a $50,000 bail on April 19. According to the court record, he is compelled to wear a GPS standard monitoring device as a condition of his jail release.

He has yet to appear in court for the hearing, and the decision on the further charges, if any, will be made then.

He is a former president of a regional chapter of the United Synagogue Youth, which describes itself as the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism’s youth movement.

Weiss has served on the Rabbinic Cabinets of National Israel Bonds, United Jewish Communities, and the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Furthermore, he was also the Chancellor’s Cabinet of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
