As per WJCL-TV, the 3rd Infantry Division issued a statement hours after the collision acknowledging Capt. James T. Bellew’s death.

Officials reported, “Capt. James T. Bellew, 26, was discovered dead at the scene of a helicopter crash involving two HH-60 helicopters at Wright Army Airfield at around 2 a.m. on Mar. 30, 2022.”

James Bellew, from Charlottesville, Virginia, enlisted in the Army through the University of Virginia’s ROTC program in 2017. Before being chosen for the medevac pilot scheme in 2019, he served a tour as a medical service officer in South Korea.

On March 30 at about 2 a.m., Capt. James Bellew, 26, was on medevac operations at the airstrip when the two helicopters collided.

The next morning, he was discovered dead at the accident scene.
