As of today, he is based in Britain and contributed to the country’s literature as well as served as an educationalist executive.

Gurnah has recently opted for retirement from his position as the Professor of English and Postcolonial Literature at the University of Kent in Canterbury.

The legendary novelist had obtained his Ph.D. from the same university in 1982.
