Juan Carlos Ferrero Donat is a Spanish former World No. 1 tennis player.

Born in Ontinyent, Spain, Ferrero began playing tennis at age 7 with his father, Eduardo Ferrero who often traveled with him.

Ferrero made his professional debut in 1998 by reaching the finals of his first Futures tournament in Italy. He also won two Futures events in Spain and ranked No. 345 that year.

Ferrero won the men’s singles title at the 2003 French Open and emerged as world number one in the ATP ranking. He became the 21st player to hold the top ranking – for eight weeks.

Following the 2012 Valencia Open, Ferrero nicknamed “Mosquito” retired from professional tennis.

In his 14-year career as a tennis player, Ferrero won 16 titles, 1 Grand Slam, 4 Masters Series, 2 ATP 500, and 9 ATP 250. Ferrero was even an iconic campaigner for Spain, leading the nation on to triumphs in three editions of the Davis Cup (2000, 2004 and 2009).
