Sam Groom (born June 13, 1938) is a British actor who is most known for his appearances on television. In the Canadian television series Dr. Simon Locke, he played the title character (1971, later renamed Police Surgeon). He had previously played Dr. Russ Matthews in the daytime drama Another World (1966-1971). On a little-known 1980s sci-fi television series called Otherworld, he portrayed Hal Sterling, the father of a shipwrecked family. Groom was also a spokesperson for American Motors in the 1980s, appearing in numerous commercials for the popular AMC Concord and AMC Eagle models. In 1993, he portrayed Joseph Orsini in the soap opera All My Children. He also appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Murder, She Wrote, The Love Boat, Hill Street Blues, Quincy M.E., Gunsmoke, and The Time Tunnel as a guest star (as Jerry). Karen, Groom’s daughter, was born in 1961. From his first marriage to Kathleen Sullivan (1962 – 1974), he had three children: Samuel (1962), Patrick (1964), and Christopher (1974). (1966). In 1980, Groom married actress Suzanne Rogers. In 1982, they divorced. He now teaches acting at New York’s HB Studio.
