Known professionally as C. Ray Nagin, Clarence Ray Nagin, Jr. (born June 11, 1956) is a management consultant who served as the 60th mayor of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, from 2002 until 2010. He is a member of the Democratic Party in the United States. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he became well-known on the world stage. Nagin became the city’s mayor for the first time in March 2002. He was re-elected in 2006 despite the fact that at least two-thirds of New Orleans residents were still homeless as a result of Hurricane Katrina at the time of the election. His tenure was restricted by legislation, and he stepped down from his position on May 3, 2010. After leaving the government, Nagin established CRN Initiatives LLC, a company that specialises in disaster preparation, green energy product creation, publishing, and public speaking, among other things.
He authored and self-published Katrina Secrets: Storms after the Storms, which is a novel about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. After being found guilty of twenty-one counts of wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering linked to bribes from municipal contractors before and after Hurricane Katrina and sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, Nagin was sentenced to ten years in federal prison in 2014.
