Mark Charles Teixeira (/te????r/ tay-SHERR-? ; born April 11, 1980) is an American professional baseball first baseman who plays for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball. Preceding his professional baseball career, he competed in college baseball at Georgia Tech, where he was honoured with the Dick Howser Trophy as the nation’s top collegiate baseball player in 2001.
Teixeira was selected by the Texas Rangers in 2001, and he made his Major League Baseball debut for them in 2003. During the middle of 2007, he was traded to the Atlanta Braves, and he was moved again during the middle of 2008, this time to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In December 2008, he came to terms with the New York Yankees on a long-term deal. Teixeira has received five Gold Glove Awards and three Silver Slugger Awards throughout his career in baseball. Teixeira also owns the big league record for the most games in which he has hit a home run from both sides of the plate, with a total of thirteen.
