Luke Wernsman Death: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

The untimely loss of a much-loved teen who departed away last night has shocked the Somonauk, Illinois, community, which is in grief.

On March 20, 2023, a collision involving three automobiles claimed the life of 16-year-old Luke Wernsman. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Luck was declared dead. The event took place at South Memory Lane and Somonauk Road.

According to the responding law enforcement officials, the Somonauk High School student allegedly crossed the middle line of traffic and collided with two other vehicles. According to the Sheriff, he passed away there.

Luke is survived by his parents, Steven and Jennifer of Somonauk, Illinois; his older brother, Andrew; his younger sister, Malorie; his grandparents, Ruth Schupp of Metamora, Illinois, Thomas (Deborah) Wernsman of Millbrook, Illinois, Penny and Joseph Nelson of Hinckley, Illinois; his great grandparents, Thelma Schaer of Metamora, Illinois, and Benno and Edna Wernsman of Germantown Hills, Illinois; and his aunt.

Great-grandparents Randy Schupp and Grammie Schupp, Dorothy and Clyde Flowers, Joseph and Marjorie Nelson (grandma with a cane), and Paul Schaer predeceased him.

On Friday, March 24, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., there will be a visitation at the Harvest Chapel Church in Sandwich, Illinois. Pastor Shane Stoddard will preside over the funeral service on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Harvest Chapel in Sandwich.

The next step is a burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley, Illinois. Donations can be made to the Fox Valley YMCA or Harvest Chapel as memorials.

Steven and Jennifer (Nelson) Wernsman welcomed their son Lucas “Luke” Wernsman on September 8, 2006, in Aurora, Illinois. Luke belonged to Harvest Chapel. He attended Somonauk High School as a student. As a Somonauk Bobcat, he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and soccer. He loved going to the YMCA to exercise.

He loved taking family holidays and going on road adventures. Luke had a reputation for being a great storyteller and for making people laugh. Luke enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, friends, and girlfriend, Sarah.
