Lester is actively involved in a journalistic career since 1981. Started as a DJ in a local radio station, he becomes one of the most influential people in broadcast media.

Holt joined CBS owned WCBS-TV in 1981 where he reported on various shows. Following year, he came to KNXT in Los Angeles operating as reporter and presenter.

Next, he went to WBBM-TV in 1986 and served for 14 years as an anchor and reporter.

In 2000, Lester Holt signed with MSNBC and after three years started tenure at NBC News. He became fill-in anchor for NBC Nightly News and Today show as well as full-time host for Weekend Today after the demise of David Bloom.

In 2007, he was announced as weekend anchor of NBC Nightly News. Later, he became a permanent anchor for the show on 18 June 2015 following the postponement of Brian William. Currently, he also hosts network’s signature newsmagazine Dateline NBC.

During his tenure at NBC, Holt contributed as a moderator on the presidential debates 2016.  He also interviewed President Donald Trump in May 2017 over the dismissal of FBI director James Comey.

Apart from anchoring, Holt has also made his appearance in various TV series like Due South, Early Edition, Warehouse 13 and 30 Rock and 1993 movie The Fugitive as a guest. He has also been featured on the cover of Making Music Magazine. He served as a host of Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on the USA Network in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
