According to Chapman University’s Facebook post, Kristin Kumagawa passed away on March 6, 2023. As per sources, Kristin Kumagawa passed away due to systemic lupus erythematosus.

The Wallace All Faiths Chapel of the Fish Interfaith Center will host a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. on March 16 to celebrate Kristin’s life.

Everyone, including her family and friends, sent condolences and tributes to Kristin Kumagawa in memory of her.

Kristin Kumagawa was a junior at Chapman University studying communication, disability studies, and public relations while accompanied by her service dog Mailie. Her diagnosis of lupus in the seventh grade has significantly impacted her desire to promote accessibility and disability awareness in the media.

She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work on projects related to her interests as an American Association of Persons with Disabilities summer intern.

Her feeling of community was strengthened by encountering others who shared her experiences of being disabled, BIPOC, and LGBT+, giving her more drive to fight for intersectionality. She is happy to contribute to creating the Asian Americans with Disabilities Initiative and is eager to see how it will benefit and inform others.

Kristin Kumagawa was a fantastic individual who had attributes that made her stand out from the rest. Her love for others had no bounds, and she had an unshakeable commitment to her sorority, Tri Delta. She was highly ambitious and determined, always looking for ways to improve the lives of those around her.

She was able to relate to people on a deeper level thanks to her empathy and giving them the necessary emotional support. Her participation in school activities demonstrated her commitment to helping others, and her compassionate nature left a lasting influence on the lives of many.
