The Blind Side Controversy explains the dissatisfaction Michael Oher has towards his adoptive parents. The matter has reached the court.

On August 14, 2023, Michael Oher took the matter to court and filed a petition against his non-biological parents claiming that they lied to him about the adoption, when it was a mere conservatorship.

Conservatorship is when a judge appoints a guardian or caretaker to handle the financial and personal life of someone who is unable to take care of himself.

Oher, a prior NFL player, probate court to end the conservatorship, alleging that Leigh Ann and Sean Tuohy never adopted him legally but instead tricked Oher into making Tuohys his conservator when he was 18.

He mentioned that the Tuohy couple insured him that there was no big difference between adoption and conservatorship.

After reviewing the 2004 conservatorship filing, People came to know that Oher was already 18 while signing this document, and neither physical or psychological disabilities were known to him.

The filing shifted the power of attorney to the Tuohys, who could then act on behalf of Oher, including making decisions with respect to his business and dealings.

It was only in February 2023 that Oher came to know about this legal matter.

Further, the petition claimed that Tuohys used his power as a conservator to manage a deal that could profit him and his two children, Collins Tuohy and Sean Tuohy Jr. as royalties from The Blind Side movie.

While the family earned millions, Oher said he did not receive any profit.

Oher mentioned in his petition that the family struck a deal worth $225,000 plus 2.5% of the net proceeds from the film. The movie earned over $300 million at the box office.

Due to all these factors, the lawyer appearing for Oher demanded the termination of Tuohys’ conservatorship and the release of an injunction restricting them from utilizing his name and fame or mentioning themselves as his family.

Additionally, the Tuohys are also asked to release a full account of all the money they earned by using Oher’s name and pay him his part of the profit.

In their defense, Tuhoys claimed they treated him like his son and never made any difference between Collin, Sean, and Michael.

Tuohy’s lawyer released a statement against all these allegations as “hurtful and absurd.”

On the contrary, they claimed that it was Oher who threatened the Tuohys to pay him $15 million or else he would ruin their reputation by planting a negative story about them in the press, as stated by WatchLive.

Touhys’ side of the story states that they could never think about earning few profits from Oher when they themselves were well established before meeting Oher.

They state that the statements made by Oher hurt them, and they would have never gone this far to support him with his dream if it was all for the money.
