Emperor Haile Selassie had 7 children. Romane Worq was his first daughter from his first marriage. Selassie proceeded to have six children from his second marriage to Menen; Tenagne Worq, Asfa Wossen, Zenabe Worq, Tshai, Makonnen, and Sahle Selassie.

Romane Worq, the eldest daughter, was taken to Italy as a prisoner of war in the 1935-36 Second Italo-Ethiopian War. She died from illness in Turin.

Tenagne Worq was Haile Selassie’s first child from his second marriage. Following her imprisonment with her child with the Derg as well, Tenngne died in 2003.

Asfa Wossen was Haile Selassie’s first son and next in line for the throne upon the emperor’s death. Wossen was forced to exit the country following a rift with his father over possible involvement in a failed coup in 1960. He died in exile in 1997.

Zenabe and Tshai died due to complications in childbirth.

Makonnen, Selassie’s favorite, was one of his children with prominence in local papers. He died in a motor accident in 1957.

The youngest, Sahle, was a product of Oxford and flew planes in his youth. He died in 1962.
