Originally uploaded on Instagram by Wayne Lineker, the brother of English broadcaster Gary Lineker and one of the proprietors of Ibiza’s Club O’Beach, the video was first shared on July 12, 2019. Wayne Lineker subsequently reposted the video twice more, on January 21 and July 9, 2022.

The video has maintained a presence on various social media platforms over time, periodically resurfacing. In his January post, Wayne Lineker tagged Rishi Sunak in the caption, humorously suggesting that Sunak was attempting to win the support of the Ibiza crowd as part of a political campaign. Despite widespread online assertions linking the shirtless dancer in the video to Sunak, further investigation reveals a different story.

Why the shirtless man in the viral Ibiza video is not Rishi Sunak?

Following Tam Khan’s posting of the video on X, it quickly accumulated more than 1.5 million views. This particular clip had gained viral traction on X before, notably in October 2022. The online community found the video entertaining, and a significant number of individuals initially held the belief that the individual in the video was the present Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the shirtless individual seen enjoying the party in the Ibiza video was indeed a look-alike. Observant individuals pointed out that the energetic dance moves displayed by the shirtless person were far too numerous to be attributed to Sunak, and such behavior was highly improbable for a politician.

Boom Live, a fact-checking website, conducted a thorough investigation of Rishi Sunak’s social media accounts in an attempt to establish any connection between him and the Ibiza party video. Despite their efforts, no evidence supporting his presence in Ibiza in July 2019 was discovered.

Instead, historical records indicate that during the period in question, the British leader, Rishi Sunak, was engaged in other activities. On July 10, 2019, he participated in a Q&A session with students from North Yorkshire. Sunak even shared a photograph of himself with the students on his Facebook account during that time. Furthermore, he was present at a community event on July 15. These events provide a clear timeline of Sunak’s whereabouts, contradicting any claims of his involvement in the Ibiza party.

It is highly implausible that between July 10 and July 15, Sunak, who held the position of Chief Secretary to the Treasury in the United Kingdom, would have had the opportunity to hastily travel to Ibiza, engage in extravagant partying for several nights, and then promptly resume his duties in England. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Rishi Sunak had publicly stated that he abstains from alcohol consumption. This makes it even more unlikely that he would be seen partying at a club with an alcoholic beverage in hand.

In addition to these thorough fact-checks, France 24, a reputable news outlet, debunked the claim that the man in the Ibiza party video was Rishi Sunak on October 29, 2022, around the time the video resurfaced on X. An analysis by the channel noted that the British Prime Minister typically has a visible mole on his left cheek, which was conspicuously absent on the individual’s face in the Ibiza party video. This further discredits the notion that the person in the video was indeed Rishi Sunak.
