Albert Emmanuel Abreu Diaz was born on September 26, 1995, in Guayubín, Dominican Republic. He signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent in August 2013 and made his professional debut in 2014 with the Dominican Summer League Astros.

Albert Abreu had pitched 2015 with the Greeneville Astros and then started 2016 with the Quad Cities River Bandits. He was subsequently promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks. However, the Houston Astros traded Albert Abreu to the New York Yankees on November 17, 2016, alongside Jorge Guzmán for Brian McCann.

The New York Yankees added Albert Abreu to their 40-man roster after the 2017 season. Albert Abreu made his MLB debut on August 8, 2020.
