Eric Clifford ‘Cliff’ Drysdale (born May 26, 1941 in Nelspruit, South Africa) is a well-known tennis commentator and former top-ranked professional tennis player from the 1960s and early 1970s. He was one of Lamar Hunt’s Handsome Eight, a group of players that joined with the newly established professional World Championship Tennis (WCT) organisation in 1968. When the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) was founded in 1972 by Jack Kramer, Donald Dell, and himself, he was elected         President. Lance Tingay of The Daily Telegraph rated Drysdale World No. 4 in 1965. Drysdale won five singles championships and six doubles titles throughout his career, including the 1972 U.S. Open doubles victory with Roger Taylor. In the fourth round of the 1968 US Open, he beat Rod Laver. After retiring as a player, he became a naturalised US citizen. He now works as an ESPN tennis analyst. Cliff Drysdale Tennis, which he co-founded with Don Henderson and Tom Brownhill, specialises in resort, hotel, and club tennis management. The USTA awarded Drysdale the William M. Johnston Award for service to men’s tennis in 1998. The International Tennis Hall of Fame inducted Drysdale in 2013.
