Robert W. “Bob” Doll (August 10, 1919 – September 18, 1959) was an American basketball player who played for the St. Louis Bombers and Boston Celtics in the NBA’s early years. Doll was a standout player at Chaffey High School in Ontario, California, and at the University of Colorado from 1939 to 1942, when he led the Buffaloes to a time of unprecedented team success. “Ichabod” Doll, a 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) post man, was renowned for being a ferocious rebounder and defender with a delicate shooting touch. Doll led the Buffaloes to NCAA Tournament and NIT berths in his first season of eligibility as a sophomore in 1940. Doll led the Buffs to the NIT championship and was awarded the tournament         Most Valuable Player after averaging 15.5 points per game during their one-game NCAA tournament participation. Doll was selected an unanimous second-team All-American two years later after leading Colorado to its first Final Four. Doll played in the Amateur Athletic Union for many years after his college career ended, and was named an AAU All-American in 1943 while playing for the Denver American Legion squad. Doll joined the Basketball Association of America’s St. Louis Bombers in 1946. (BAA). Doll signed as a free agency with the Boston Celtics after two years with the Bombers.
